First things first- what’s with the blog name? Aren’t there other folks with “gun” and “geek” in their names? Well, yes, there are. However, I was using The Gun Geek on BBS systems and other dial-up online systems before the intehwebs even existed. The other “gun” and “geek” folks are certainly entitled the their use of the words. It’s not like I have a trademark on it or anything. I use it because I’ve been a programmer and database administrator for decades and have been enjoying guns since I was old enough to own them. When I was 18 I bought my first gun and within a year I owned over a dozen rifles and shotguns in a wide variety of types and cartridges.
There are plenty of gun blogs out there that cover current events in the gun and 2nd Amendment world, so I won’t be doing a whole lot of that. Oh, sure, I’ll comment on some of it at times, but it won’t be the primary focus of this blog.
So, what can you expect to see here? I’ll be posting about various gun projects of mine or friends of mine, such as simple repairs or enhancements or installation of aftermarket parts. There will also be reviews of guns and gun related products.
I’ve got some thoughts about doing a little home gunsmithing and I’ll post about those experiments. With my limited mechanical skills, you might see more bad examples so you know what not to do than really good instructions on how to improve or fix your own gun, but even a bad example is useful, right?
Look for reviews of products and posts about reloading. There will be some topics on hunting and fishing and camping as well. With “Geek” in the name, I think it’s pretty safe to say I’ll discuss technology as it relates to guns and related topics.
I’d love to post something every day, but I don’t see that as being all that realistic. My best guess is that I’ll have something new 4-5 days a week. Many of my posts will end up being multi-part posts put up over several days.
I welcome comments and discussion on any of my posts.
Thanks for stopping by. Y’all come back now, ya hear?
